Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), usually referred to simply as Planned Parenthood, is a nonprofit organization that provides reproductive health services in the United States and internationally. An affiliate of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and one of its larger members, PPFA has its roots in Brooklyn, New York, where Margaret Sanger opened the first birth control clinic in the U.S. In 1921 Sanger founded the American Birth Control League, which changed its name to Planned Parenthood in 1942. Planned Parenthood reports that it is made up of approximately 174 affiliates and over 700 health clinics in the United States and abroad. The organization directly provides a variety of reproductive health services, is involved in sexual education efforts, contributes to research in reproductive technology, and engages in legal and political efforts aimed at protecting and expanding reproductive rights.

PPFA is the largest single provider of reproductive health services, including abortion, in the United States. In their 2014 Annual Report, PPFA reported seeing over 2.5 million patients in over 4 million clinical visits and performing a total of nearly 9.5 million discrete services including 324,000 abortions. The organization has a combined annual revenue of US$1.3 billion, including roughly US$530 million in government funding such as Medicaid reimbursements. Throughout its history PPFA has variously experienced support, controversy, protests, and violent attacks.

One part of Social Issues is the Anti-Abortion movements or pro-life movements have been in the limelight over the past few years. This topic has become a hot debate amongst masses and the United States pro-choice movement is a socio-political movement is of the view that women should have the legal right to go for abortion. In other words, it can be said that women has the right to terminate her pregnancy without any if's and but's.

Another topic that has come to light is same sex marriages to be legalized or not. The legalization of same sex marriages is accepted in few states, whereas other states ensure that there is no adherence to legalization of same sex marriages. Moreover, it is seen that people moving from one state to another to ensure they live peacefully with their same sex partners. There are indications that proceedings might come in favor of same sex marriages.

Another social issue that people argue about is the death penalty. Seasoned criminals have always been able to protect themselves from the fear of capital punishment or death penalty. They are able to come under the shelter is due to the reason that many countries have abolished this type of punishment and many are under the pressure of human rights commission to omit it. However, three dozens of countries do participate in this severe punishment. Death penalty is still a debatable topic in this globe.
